Earlier this year after cashing in on a very profitable bet in the stock market (bought low, GP @33.375 in September then sold high, GP @ 99.25 in May) , I decided to use some of the profits to reopen the old family ice cream store.
The location on a secluded cove in the Malibu, California area had always been a financial anchor for the Demure family ever since Denise and Roger Demure fled here after Appomatax signaled the end of the War between the States. Roger traded his miltary saber for a pair of horses and with his true love,Denise, they headed west with the idea of stopping only when they reached the Pacific Ocean.      Denise and Roger panned Malibu Creek and while never striking it rich they did manage to accumulate enough to buy a herd of dairy cows. They made a fair living selling dairy products but as their family grew (4 boys & 6 girls) the money just could not keep up with the demand.      Enter Marlene Moxie, a wild child of California's frontier and a working lady of the Old West. The ladies then were not looked down on as they are today since any female was a welcome sight to the lonely cowboys, soilders and prospectors of the Pacific Coast. Everybody prospered as Moxie and her girlfriends took jobs as waitresses and deliverd ice cream and a little sauce to the men of the Santa Monica mountains.      This was the base of our family fortune as the Demure children took the profits and invested them in railroads, and later automotive companies. There was a slight reversal in fortune after the crash in '29 so the family reopened the Ice Cream Parlor but this time, instead of working ladies, you could get either a cold home made beer or ice cream soda during the last days of Prohibition and the Great Depression.      Once more we are open to the public but this time ice cream and only ice cream is our specialty. The next time you are near Oldtown, how's about coming up to see me some time big boy. We are only a pecan nut throw from the Y'all Come Back Saloon. |
