I am a professional photographer in Marion Kentucky. A good bit of my time is spent here at my studio. When I am not busy witnessing to others about my God, I am serving my family and my photography clients. I really love all of God's creations and I have spent many hours photographing them. This is my first attempt at building a web page. If and when I learn what I am doing, I will attempt to make it better. The portrait at the top of this page is of me. My son did this and it is very similar to what I often do.
The following is the biography I use when I have a public show, or when I use publicity in some publication announcing a show of my work:
Bob Lamb was born in Sherman Texas in 1937. He was moved to Fort Worth Texas in 1938 and to White Settlement Texas in 1946. Bob mowed grass for the neighbors and made 50 cents per lawn.
One day he decided to buy something different with his money so he bought a roll of film. Not knowing what it was, he asked his mother and was told that he was now the proud owner of a roll of film that he could not use.
Not to be discouraged, he asked his Aunt Roxie what he could do. She told him that she had a camera that the film would fit. Aunt Roxie proceeded to teach him how to use the film and camera.
The young photographer was nine years old and he made his first photographs of a fire engine speeding down the street. After saving up to have the film developed, he was astounded at the results. He said that day, "I want to be a photographer." He soon met the only professional photographer in town who took him under his wing and taught him how to develop film and make prints.
At the age of ten, he was making photographs for his classmates and making the money necessary to buy himself some equipment. By the age of 12, Bob was already in business for himself, as well as working for the photographer who taught him so much. About this time, his teacher took sick and closed the only studio in White Settlement Texas. Before leaving town, the photographer told Bob that he should go to technical school when he was old enough.
In 1954, Bob enrolled in photography classes in Ft. Worth Texas. He had to ride a bus to school about two hours every day . Bob attended photography classes for three years. After photo school, he went to work for Reporter Publishing Company where he was the head photographer for seven neighborhood newspapers and one monthly magazine.
After completing his schooling, he went to work as a commercial photographer for Bill Wood Photo Company. While there he married Sammye and headed out in another direction.
In the Fall of 1957, Bob joined the Air Force and started his world travels. While in the Air Force he was a photographer loaned out to the Army as well as the U.S.Coast Guard. The Lamb's traveled to Mississippi, then Greece, then Germany and many other countries on a short time basis. Bob worked for the U.S. Embassy in Greece, U.S. Security Service, U.S Intelligence, Greek Secret Police, National Museum of Greece and others. Lamb has decorated many public buildings with his photographs in Germany , Greece , and the USA.
In 1969 Bob went to work as a photographer for an aircraft manufacturer. And in 1971 he went back to school and taught, as well as being a student in Tarrant County Junior College. After he received his Masters degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth Texas in 1978, he left the teaching profession to run his own studio full time.
While running his studio, he took off time to conduct tours and teach photography on cruises. The part-time tour business took the Lamb's to Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and the Caribbean.
The Lamb's have written and photographed stories on travel for different travel magazines, as well as giving numerous lectures and slide shows on travel.
On May 11, 1985, while returning from a road trip, the Lamb's were hit head on by a car sliding sideways coming down a hill. Both Bob and Sammye were hospitalized with extensive injuries. Since neither one was able to work for two years, they sold their business and home and moved into their motor home.
While traveling again, they stopped in Crittenden County to do some genealogical research on the Lamb family. They found such a wealth of information and even the land where Bob's ancestors, John and Comfort Lamb, settled in the 18th. century. They also fell in love with the area and decided to stay.
After some investments they made in 1985 went sour, they decided they had to come out of retirement. Sammye was the first to go back into business with her natural food store, Nature's Rx. Then in January 1993 Bob and Sammye opened their combined business' at 121 East Carlisle St. in Marion.
That store was soon too small, so they then bought an old church at 200 N. Walker, across from Foh's Hall. The Lamb's live at 776 Sugar Grove Rd. in the old house they restored. The original house was built about 1891.This property is part of the original homestead settled in 1794.
