I Could Not Say

I could not say, except to him
All I keep inside.
All the hurt and suffering
That from others I tend to hide.

He knows about my family.
He knows about my friends.
He knows about my everything.
There's no need to pretend.

In spite of these, he loves me still
He's always there to listen
to me talk, and talk, and talk, and he is there
to wipe the tears that glisten
from my eyes, when I talk about
Life and God and Home.
With him I feel secure and safe -
I do not feel alone.

And so, to him, I trust myself
And so, I trust in him.
One rare person, who came to knock
at my heart, who I let in.

So, tonight, when I lay to sleep
I'll pray to God above.
to thank Him for sending to me
A friend whom I could love.

This poem was written for a class, where we had to rhyme the lines. Man, do I hate rhyming pomes. But, this one expressed a lot of emotions that I kept inside for a long time about someone very close to me...and to think, it took a crappy english course to bring them out.
