Sentences

In Bahasa Melayu, there are four basic patterns of sentences and others are formed by addition of conjunctions to create compound and complex
sentences.

These four patterns are as follows:
Pola 1. Frasa nama - Frasa nama or FN-FN
(Pattern 1: Noun phrase - Noun phrase)
Example:
Lelaki itu pegawai kastam.
(The man is a customs officer)
FN: Lelaki itu (as Subject)
FN: pegawai kastam (as Predicate)

Pola 2: Frasa nama - Frasa adjektif or FN-FA
(Pattern 2: Noun phrase - Adjectival phrase)
Example:
Rumah itu sangat besar.
(The house is very big)
FN: Rumah itu (as Subject)
FA: sangat besar (as Predicate)

Pola 3: Frasa nama - Frasa sendi or FN-FS
(Pattern 3: Noun phrase - Prepositional phrase)
Example:
Gadis itu dari negeri Melaka.
(The lass comes from the state of Malacca.)
FN: Gadis itu (as Subject)
FS: dari negeri Melaka (as Predicate)

Pola 4 : Frasa nama - Frasa kerja or FN-FK
Example:
Pengakap itu mendirikan khemah.
(The scout is pitching a tent)
FN: Pengakap itu (as Subject)
FK: mendirikan khemah (as Predicate)
