Hymns: A Legacy of Faith

Amy Grant

So what excites you more, another Hymns CD or another CD by Amy Grant?  There are many favorites on this hymns CD, but Amy and producer, Vine Gill, have used several different styles on this CD and they do not seem to flow together.  Some songs have a distinct country feel to them, others have a soft, quiet hymns feel to them and others have almost a calypso style.  One of the most talked about songs on the CD is also one of the biggest missteps on it.  Amy's version of MercyMe's "I Can Only Imagine" does not flow well with the rest of the CD and lacks the passion of the original version.   Those who are not country music fans may find her version of "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" a little too country for their taste.

There are many songs, though, that retain the quiet hymns feel that many enjoy hearing hymns sung in and these are the highlights of the CD.

If you want to hear a country version of hymns, then this is the CD for you.  If you like to hear your hymns quiet and slow, then you will find several songs on here that you enjoy.  Most fans will find something that they like on this CD.
