Jody McBrayer is the first of the Avalon group members to release a solo CD. Janna Long has one that comes out this fall as well. We have not heard anything on why they are doing this but there is nothing to suggest that this is anything more than a 1 CD thing. One of the highlights of this CD is its diversity in songs and another is the lyrics. Lyrically the lyrics are as good as anything Avalon has released. Musically, tracks range from dance to the old Gospel song with a choir in the background.
The CD starts with the title track that is a hopping dance number that looks from the viewpoint of Christ crying out telling the world who He is and what He's really about. This trend continues with "Take a Step (1, 2, 3)", and "Unspeakable Joy". One of the highlights is the latin flavored "Never Alone (Nunca Solo)", which features guest vocals from Jadyn Strand, whose debut CD comes out next Spring. This song reminds us that while we might feel alone, we never truly are because God is always with us. This album's diversity shows through as it also includes songs like "To Ever Live Without Me" (which sounds most like Avalon), and "I Never Knew" which has a great choir in the background. One of the lyrical highlights comes on "To Ever Live Without Me" where Jody sings "It was all about a man. It was all about the blood that was shed, so I would not be lost."
The diversity makes this CD interesting and the lyrics are great. As the title track already starts to pick up steam on radio this CD looks to be one that many enjoy, not just fans of Avalon.
