Friends of 3rdCKs (How to find 'em)

3rdCKs have been saying good-bye to friends for many, many years. If you are a 3rdCK, you have no doubt said good-bye to many best friends with the strongest intent of keeping in touch. The letters go back and forth for a couple of years, and then it just becomes too much trouble. You lose touch, and years later wonder whatever happened that that person. Thanks to the internet, finding your old friends has become much easier. This page is dedicated to helping you do just that.
Your best bet for finding other 3rdCKs are web sites dedicated to 3rdCKs. Here are some I have found helpful.
You might also try a locator site on the web. Sometimes you might find a phone number.
Believe it or not, I discovered that one of my best friends was living 40 miles away from me by using a regular old search engine. It works best if you search their whole name in quotes, such as "John Doe."
  • Infoseek They have an e-mail directory.
  • Excite Just search with the name in quotes.
  • Yahoo They have a section fore personal homepages.

There are many other metods you can try. Here are some suggestions.
  1. If you know where they went or where they are going to college you can try to search there. Often the alumni association may have an on-line list of alumni.
  2. You can always try calling information if you know where they might be living.
  3. If your friend or your friend's parents were in the military, you may be able to search using the Military Locator. It's not free, but it probably works.
  4. Did your friend ever give you the name or address for one of their relatives, like a place where they would be staying for a month or so? To this date, I can still find out where my best friend is by calling his grandmother in Texas.
  5. There is one newsgroup I know of dedicated to military brats: alt.culture.military-brats.

This page is not a comprehensive list of locator tactics. These are just ones that have worked for me. If you know of any other sites or methods that would be helpful, please e-mail them to me. I would greatly appreciate it.

Remember, your friends may be looking for you, so don't hide. If your alumni association is on-line, go ahead and register with them. If you have a homepage, submit its address to a few search engines. If you don't have a homepage, get one for FREE!! The more visible you make yourself, the faster you may find some of your old friends.
