Welcome to my corner called "Hodgepodge"
I want to include all sorts of odds and ends
that I have collected throughout the years.

Hodgepodge: n, a random mixture

Thoughts to Ponder:

Can fat people go skinny dipping?

If Teflon is supposed to be non-stick, how do they get it to stick to the pan?

What happens when you get scared half to death twice?

If a turtle loses its shell, is it considered naked or homeless?

How to plant the garden of your life:

Plant three rows of squash:
1. Squash gossip
2. Squash criticism
3. Squash indifference
Plant seven rows of peas:
1. Prayer
2. Promptness
3. Perseverance
4. Politeness
5. Preparedness
6. Purity
7. Patience
Plant seven heads of lettuce
1. Let us be unselfish and loyal
2. Let us be faithful to duty
3. Let us search the scriptures
4. Let us not be weary in well doing
5. Let us be obedient in all things
6. Let us be truthful
7. Let us love one another
No garden is complete without turnips:
1. Turn up for church
2. Turn up for meetings, in prayer, and Bible study
3. Turn up with a smile, even when things are difficult
4. Turn up with determination to do your best in God's service.

Do You shudder when you think of these??

A teaspoon of sugar with a few drops of turpentine?

Hadecohl?

Chill Tonic?

Castor Oil?

Mama had a few sayings that kept us wondering exactly what she meant!

I'll give you what Patty gave the drum!

I'm gonna cut my galluses and go straight up!

He/She lacks a little bit of what I lack a whole lot of!

I'm gonna jerk a knot in your tail that will take an army to untie!

The Garden Gate
There's something about a garden gate
That invites the soul to mediate,
To enter a garden beyond a wall-
Where living things have heard God's call
Where one can sit and marvel at many
Of nature painted in brilliant hues-
To listen to birds and whispering sounds
And know creative love abounds,
At last to feel the kiss of the sun
For pleasant dreams when the day is done

I can complain because Rose bushes have thorns

OR

I can Rejoice because thorn bushes have Roses!

To My Grown-Up Child

I didn't have much time to play
The little games you asked me to
I didn't have much time for you
I'd wash your clothes,
I'd sew and cook,
But when you'd bring your picture book
And ask me to plese share your play
I'd say,"A little later in the day."
I'd tuck you in all safe at night,
Hear your prayers and turn out the light
Then tip-toe softly to the door...
I wish I'd stayed a little more
For life is short, the years rush past...
A little child grows up so fast.
They are no longer at your side.
Precious secrets to confide
The picture books are put away
There are no longer games to play
No good-night kiss, no prayers to hear...
That all belongs to yesteryear,
My hands, once so busy, now are still
The days are long and hard to fill
I wish I could go back
and do the little things you asked.

2. Smile at a Stranger

3. Make a New Friend

4. Be Loyal at Work

5. Forgive an Enemy

6. Apologize when you are wrong

7. Try to understand

8. Listen to what people say

9. Think first of someone else

10. Thank God for all your Blessings

I Said a Prayer For You Today
I said a prayer for you today
And I know God must have heard
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke no word
I didn't ask for wealth or fame,
I knew you wouldn't mind,
I asked Him to send treasures
Of a far more lasting kind
I asked He'd be near you
At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings
And friends to share your way
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small
But it was for His loving care
I prayed for most of all

Do you Remember these Sayings?

My house is situated near a pond.
Drop in sometime

Sugar is sweet
Coal is black
Do me a favor
and go sit on a tack

Roses are red
Pickles are green
My face is a holler
But yours is a scream

Roses are red
Violets are blue
when it rains
I think of you!
drip,drip,drip

Ha! Ha! Ha! I laugh with joy
'cause I was here
before Kilroy!

It tickles me,
It makes me laugh
To think you want
My autograph

In the Chimney of your future
Please count me as a brick

In the golden chain of friendship
Consider me a link

Tell me quick
Before I faint
Is we friends
Or is we ain't?

If in Heaven
we don't meet
Hand in hand
we'll stand the heat
And if it gets intensely hot
Pepsi-Cola hits the spot

Sugar in the pitcher
Butter in the bowl
I can't get a sweetheart
to save my soul!

Happiness is like potato salad
when you share it with others
It's a picnic!

Five things observe with care:
Of whom you speak,
To whom you speak,
And how, and when, and where.

When you've work to do,
Do it with a will;
They who reach the top,
First must climb the hill.

Sin has many tools,
but a lie is the handle
that fits them all

MAY is the month of pure delight
I have a rose so pure and white
KISS the rose and then the vine and
YOU will end this with a question find

When you get old and ugly
as people often do
Remember you have a friend
Who is old and ugly too.

Up the tree and down the bark
Boys in Arkansas are hard to spark

Grapevine pie,
Shoestring filling,
We'll get married,
If the old folks are willing.

Furniture Disease....
Its where your Chest has fallen
Into your Drawers!

Eating Planting Peanuts...
Will make you have the Green Apple step!
