why i don't eat meat

there's lots of reasons to not eat meat. but i'm vegetarian not because it's healthy, not because of any religious convictions, not because it's trendy, not to be better than you, and not because i am 'a wealthy american, who has the option' (a ludicrous arguement levied upon me in some debate or another). i am a vegetarian because i feel that it is wrong for me to kill another animal to eat its flesh. i also do not wear leather, for the same reason. the only thing that stops me from being vegan is that it's very hard to avoid dairy products. i usually keep to a vegan diet 6 months out of the year, but it's very difficult and tiring. especially in a small town in the midwest where it's hard to find good vegan food.

it's really not that hard to become a vegetarian. i did it overnight, about 5 years ago. don't do it gradually, that's not going to work. do it all at once. however, it's not work, so if you find yourself craving dead flesh, have a hamburger. (i've never felt this pull, but i suppose it is entirely possible. meat is tough junk to ditch.)
