Alone
by Leann Arndt
What is that noise?
Is it a footfall?
No,it can't be.
That's silly.
I'm alone.
What's that?
Is that my breathing?
Do I breathe that loud?
I must.
After all,I'm alone.
Why am I shivering?
There must be a draft.
That's it.
It's a draft.
It is winter.
Wait,is someone calling me?
Whose voice is that?
It must be the neighbors since,
I'm alone.
There it is again.
I swear that someone
is calling my name.
Can't be that.
I have to shrug it off;
since I'm alone.
I feel a tickle on my shoulder.
Is it a spider, a roach?
It can't be a hand.
After all,I'm alone.
Help me!
I feel a tearing pain
in my throat!
Why is it dark?
I don't need to be afraid.
I'll put on the lights.
It shouldn't matter that
I'm alone.
Where are the lights?
Why can't I move?
What is this box?
It can't be what it seems.
It is!
I'm alone.
