Dream

by David MacDonald

 You dream of this place
This place that you've never seen
Except for the descriptions you read
 They seem filled with peace
 Its gentle beauty, the quietness
An island, separated from the rest
You just want to get away
and put your mind to rest
 From where you are now
 You don't feel complete
 You feel alone here
You have no room to breathe
 So you wish to live
 Away from the outside world
 To go to a place
where its soul is good and pure

One day you soon found yourself
With your bare feet on the red soil
And your eyes are able to see
What you always wanted to know about
But you've been here for a while
 And you have realized
Most of what you liked about this place
Was only from a novel you read
 This is an island, isolated
From the more open ideas of the world
And where people are just as
Flawed and who are able to hurt
Just like the ones you left behind
You ask if it's worth it to stay
But you still have your dreams, woman
They will keep you here for today 1
