Spiral Grove

You stand in a circle of trees. The wind blows, a refreshing coolness on your face, and rustles the leaves overhead. All manner of trees make up the circling green: oak and fir, birch and holly, apple and hazel, no two the same. The scent of growing is heavy and green around you, intoxicating. The whisper of leaf on leaf begins to be a song, the words almost understandable...

Welcome to Spiral Grove. You are visitor

Spiral Grove is an exploration into my fascination with Ogham and anything and everything connected to it. No one seems to really agree on much about the Ogham, but everyone has a theory--including me.

Some call Ogham the code of the druids, some claim it hides a calendar, some that it holds divinatory powers, and some that it is none of these things. The truth is lost in unwritten histories.

All we do know is the Ogham are a system of writing, each symbol known as a few. The fews are named for trees, each with their own rich symbolism.

My personal interest is an outgrowth of my fascination with all things Celt-ish. The Ogham in particular appealed to me--it is a riddle begging to be studied.

Please be patient while I get this set up. Barring catastrophe, I should be updating this site with a tree about every week. Meanwhile, so you won't have to feel you've stopped here for nothing, here are some sources of further information both on and off the Web.

Beth, the Birch, tree of Ogham.

Luis, the Rowan, tree of Divination.

Nion, the Ash, tree of Ritual.

Fearn, the Alder, tree of the Celts.
