Some "Family
Names" that were found on the Graves
when Documenting the Agram Cemetery
(Old Protestant Cemetery) Bangalore, India. Many more names were obscure
or grave-stones without graves were observed. There may be many stones
that have not been recovered due to earth covering them. Please bear with
us as we are doing our best. Our resources are limited or literally none,
and our time is also stretched. Some of the spelling may be slightly different,
as there are a few cases where the surnames are spelt different for the
same family. Some of the names mentioned were documented in 1988 but the
grave stones are yet to be traced, or are traced but the location of
the graves are not known. It is for this reason that we had appealed to all
if someone can come up with the Registers of the Burials for this Cemetery
as there were apparently removed from St. Mark's Church. There could be
a copy in England as this Cemetery used to belong to the Garrison and there
is a possibility that some Army Records still exist which we are
unware about or unable to get hold of. Being in Bangalore, India
doesn't help us getting at documentation in any of the Museums or
War Offices in the U.K., and since at present this is done on an
honorary basis, we cannot afford to engage a researcher as most of
the Libraries and Musuems advised us to do. So now, it's up to you
out there to help us put this Cemetery in order, by helping us
get hold of some of the documentation. Some more photographs will
be coming up on my home page shortly.
For further details you may contact Admiral
O.S. Dawson, at Bangalore.
