Vedic Astrology, unlike western Astrology do not
take into account planets like pluto, neptune and Uranus.
The basic planets are Navagrahas or Nine planets. They are

Each of the planets signify certain characters which
help in determining the various aspects and events of
life while analysing one's horoscope.
Sun : It is a male planet and signifies Atma and also
called the natural Atmakaraka. Goverment positions, Father, income, power,
political influence can be ascertained from him.
Moon : This is a female planet and in the ruler of heart.
It signifies mother, wealth, music & Generosity.
Mars : Being a male planet, it signifies brothers & sister.
He is a natural malefic
Mercury : This signifies knowledge, arts maternal uncles
Jupiter : It signifies children, ministers. He is a natural benefic
Venus : It signifies sexual pleasures, clothes, jewels, business, music.
Saturn : It signifies longivity, menial jobs. He is a natural malefic
Rahu : This is one of the nodal planets. It signifies slavery, mental health,
prison, litigation and unlawful activities
Ketu : This is the other nodal planets. This signifies Moksha, occult
practices and ascetic life.
Rashis : There are 12 Rashis or houses. Each Rashi
extends to 30 Degrees [ 360 / 12 ] . The Various

are of three type number which come in sequence for the
Rashis.

Since there are 108 divisions, 27 * 4 padas, and
there are 12 Rashis, Each Rashi will hold 108 / 12, ie
nine padas. For eg. Mesham, will ashwini, bharani and
1 pada from kritika, while vrishabha will hold the other
3 padas along with Rohini and first 2 padas of Mrigashirsham.
Likewise it continues for the rest of the Rashis.
Significance of Houses : In Jyotish, the first house
is always the ascendent or Lagna. Each of the 12 houses
signify particular characteristic of the individual
Lagna or Ascendent : This signifies, the native's physical
appearance, color, fame and general characteristics.
This is considered to be an important house, as this
gives the overall picture of the native
2nd House : This characterises wealth, family, mind,
knowledge.
3rd House : This represents younger brothers, success in
ones's deeds, music and ears
4th House : Mother, vehicles, house,land, business, friends
are signified by it.
5th House : Children, fame, previous lives karma, paternal grandfather,
vedic knowledge
6th House : Diseases, debt, litigation, enemies and prison
term
7th House : Marriage, business, partner's characteristics
8th House : Longivity, war
9th House : Father, Dharma, Father's wealth
10th House : Career, faith, power
11th House : Elder brothers, other wives, income and
foreign visits
12th House : Moksha, spendings, maternal grandfather,
foreign travels
