Breathe deeply and slowly. One, two, three times. Let the tensions of the day all flow downward, and out my feet into the earth. I feel the healing energy flow in at the crown of my head and complete the circle. I close my eyes and go within. I stand at the center of my world and look around me. What a wondrous sight! I stand in the center of a beautiful clearing in an ancient forest. There are wildflowers of pink, gold, and purple all around me. The trees are tall and full; their leaves forming a living canopy above. I am standing in the center of a path that stretches beyond the horizon both in front of me and behind. There is a shaft of pure, white light shining straight down upon me from above. The earth beneath my feet seems so dark a brown that it is almost black. Every breath I take cleanses and invigorates me. I stand there for a while, smiling, and giving thanks for where I am. Slowly, I turn and look behind me. The path there zig zags up one hill and down another. It doubles back upon itself and I can see huge boulders and jagged rocks nearly blocking it in many places. In other places, it appears to go down into deep canyons with sheer cliffs on either side. I think to myself what a horrible path that must be to walk, and hope that I do not have to go there. I hear a voice saying to me, “That is the place from which you have come. You have already traveled that path, and there is no need to retrace your steps. Turn instead and look ahead.” I slowly turned about and breathed a sigh of relief. There before me the path was straight, and gentle. There were trees with fruit laden branches hanging over it. Flowers of all kinds grew all around and even on the path. It was a thing of great beauty and serenity. Birds sang a welcome, and the breeze whispered of home. Then I understood that the path behind was my past, and what I saw before me now was my future. I saw the form of a person made up of golden light standing just before me with their hand stretched out to me. “Come, my child, my love. The road home is short and clear. You have only a little more to go, and look how far you have already come. You are not alone. We are with you always, and so proud of you. So come now. Walk the last of the journey in the center of your path. Be at peace with yourself and the world around you. Give love to everyone you meet, and know that the universe itself cannot contain the love that belongs to you. Hold your head up high and know your worth. For in all the generations of all the worlds in all the universes for all of time, where has there ever been another quite like you? As it was in the beginning, so it is now, and ever shall be. We are one!” Slowly, I open my eyes and look around me. I am still here. This world holds my spirit yet a while longer. The sun is shining outside and I can hear the tinkle of my wind chimes. I stretch and walk to the patio door, going out into the morning. I smile as I remember what I saw. It is so nice not to fear death any longer, but dear God, what a gift to no longer fear to live.
