Across the years I stride, seldom even looking back. Always in a hurry to get ahead. To be someplace other than where I have been. It never seems to occur to me how wonderful it can be where I am. All the different people I have been, and those I still have yet to be. Where in the universe is there another being exactly like me?
Every single day, every thought, every emotion all stored away inside. Every kindness, every pain, all the longing, and the joy. The births, the deaths, the renewal of springtime, the brief fire of the shooting star. The touch of a lover, the hand of your child tucked safely in yours. The bitter with the sweet all filed away inside your heart. Then the day suddenly comes when you stop and look back. What have I really done? What has it all meant? Would it have mattered if I had not been here at all? We all ask these things at one time in our lives. The answer is always the same. Yes! You do matter. If you could only see yourself as I see you. Where has there ever been anything like any one of us? We are the jewels of creation. Unique and without equal, every one. Love yourself and know, you will be forever, priceless in my heart. © 1999 by D. Ron Mack Written 7/14/1999 |
