February 1999

Dear All,

Greetings from down south, Texas way! Candi and I are painting the town red....with utang.

No, seriously, here we are, Sr. Chabela, Candi Roxas and I in Candelaria's super duper high tech office at the University of Texas. It's a long way from Worcester, Massachusetts but Assumption has a way of bringing odds and ends from so many different parts of the world together, wouldn't you agree?

We're here to explore possibilities for Assumption to be present in this Rio Grande Valley, which has one of the highest poverty levels in the United States. Candi and her gang of trusty colleagues are doing magnificent work for the people of this area. Hopefully, sometime in the future, some Assumption Sisters and AMAs (you remember -- lay volunteers) can participate in the same kind of work....for the Kingdom and for the Church as Mother Marie Eugenie hoped.

We're even thinking of staging a Mr. Postman revival....don't you think that's a great fund-raising project?

Well, I have owed you an article for the longest time ever. Please accept this crazy note, written in Edinburg, Texas as a feeble attempt at a reflection piece that should have come out of Worcester, Massachusetts.

Love,

Sister Mary Ann Azanza, r.a.
