Freddy the Ferry |
a story for the kid in all of usCarl A SmithBack to Writer's Gallery |
Once upon a time in the far off land of Puget Sound Country there lived a shiny ferry boat named Freddy. Freddy made the Vashon Island run, which is pretty strange since neither the island, nor Freddy, had legs to run on. Occasionally people wondered how well Vashon ran, but everyone knew Freddy's run tended to be haphazard at best. But legs, or no legs, both Vashon and Freddy did seem to run.
And run he did. Back and forth across Puget Sound Freddy ran all day and half the night. He was such a busy ferry that he went through three crews a day, moved hundreds of cars, trucks and buses, and carried thousands of people. Admittedly most of these were Commuters and so didn't count for nothing, but still Freddy was a busy little boat.
