Omak's White Stallions
It was an important day. Important enough to
bring the Grand Vizier visiting this desert town far removed from the great
cities to the east. But it isn't everyday that the greatest
breeder of white Arabian stallions dies. Omak had died.
Fitting to the occasion The Grand Vizier came riding into the
town on a white stallion Omak had gifted the Vizier in yesteryear. He had come to settle the disputed estate of Omak - principally Omak's
parent stock, twenty-three white Arabians. There were three sons
who survived Omak and his will called for the following distribution:
The oldest son went One half of the paddock horses OR 11 and
1/2 of the 23 horses;
The middle son went One third of the paddock horses OR 7 and
2/3 of the 23 horses;
The youngest son went One eighth of the paddock horses OR 2
and 7/8 of the 23 horses
Knowing there was going to be blood on the sands the Vizier
had come. The Vizier knew of this problem just as he knew of
every problem in the fiefdom. The Vizier also knew the
solution. So after much shared tea and several dancing girls
later, the Vizier entered the paddock. Five minutes after
entering the paddock the Vizier mounted his horse and headed home. There was no blood on the sand, horse or human. Peace had
been maintained for at least one more day.
What did the Vizier do?
