Mango {S-WHY} | Cambodia possesses great varieties of mangos. They are freshly green when young and ripe to a banana yellow in color. They can come in various sizes, but never too large. The young meat is white and they ripe into yellow.
Ma-yom {Thar-bak} | A tiny grape like fruit that sticks together in a branches. Its skin and meat (light green color) goes all around--in a sunflower shape style. This fruit is very crunchy and sour. It seed is a 1/3 the size of the fruit; usless to swallow.
Oranges {Kroug} | Same, there are several different types, such as grapefruits, tangarine, etc.
Bananas {J-ATE} | There are a few types of bananas: the little EGG bananas, the medium size NEXT YEAR banana, the well known regular bananas, and the larger size green bananas.
Coconuts {Dong} | Like any tropical states, coconuts are always well known.
Apples {Bpom} | Same
Grapefruits {Kroug Tloug} | Look similiar to US but Asian grapefruit has thicker skin and the meat is juicy sweet. If you never tasted Asian grapefruit, you ought to try it. It's not bitter. You can get them from Chinatown grocery and/or any Asian stores.
Cherries { } | There are a major difference between the Asian cherries vs. US cherries--nevertheless, the two types do taste good. I haven't come across any Asian cherries in the US, so we'll probably have to get it in Asia.
Durian {Ter-Reen} | A big green fruit w/ sharp, spike skins. The meat inside is yellow, though. Like all fruits, it has a unique smell, but not everyone consider it pleasant.
Litchi {} |
Longan {M-Anne} | This is a light brown skin fruits that clings w/ each others just like grapes. Except the skin is firmer and no one eats it, so don't you try. The inside meat is white, juicy and sweet. Another favorite of mine. Take out the seeds.
Papaya {La-Hong} | Just like it in the US, the riper the sweeter.
Jackfruit {Kn-ouw} | A yellowish fruit that is nice and sweet.
Pineapple {Ma-nough} | You know it--just by the name of it.
Cherry Boy {Tha-loup} | redish-orange fruit that looks like a small size apple w/ green irish leaves on the top. The skin and meat are orange in color and its taste is nice and sweet. Chinatown and Asian stores have lots of fresh ones. Check it out!
Rambutan {Sour-MOW} | This is a red hairy fruit that smells great and taste delicious. Please take the meaning literally. The inside meat is oval white that wraps around the large seed.
Custard Apple {Theep} | Just like its name, it is born creative in shape (shape like--Africa) w/ a light green lumpy skin. Its meat is white and is lightly sweet. Try it and you'll know what I mean.
Guava {Tha-bak} | Another one of my favorites is this green oval shape fruit. The inside meat is white and the countless seeds are all mixed together. Those tiny seeds are swallowable. I noticed there are two different sizes, small and large (just like a small apple vs. a large apple). The larger taste sweeter.
Others | There's avocado, too, but this is imported. I don't recall seeing any strawberries, though. They could be imported, too, I'm sure. Most of these fruits are now sold in Asian's stories either as fresh goods or pickeled jar style goods.
