Why is it that many students from Ulm became teachers: do they have a mission or are they mainly theorists? Some of them perhaps read this page and explain us their curriculum. As a matter of fact I am involved in teaching from the very moment I came to Italy, even if I earn my living instead as a designer. But is it possible to teach industrial design? Is it a mere conveying of practical experience and/or theory? The question involves another one about the reasonableness of design itself. Is a design theory conceivable? Or can we learn design by mainly imitating the master? Moreover, designers and teachers of design are confronted with some awful paradoxes, like the fact that the effect of their fatigues is that they inevitably contribute to consumerism and pollution. In my eyes we must distinguish furthermore between industrial design, engineering, art and ergonomics. As you see their is enough stuff for discussion on this page. During this season I am involved in teaching, amongst others, in the following institutes: I hope to create constructive links with them: |
