"Sunset" written May 9, 1998
I stood and watched the Sunset
go down one windy day.
The sky first colored yellow
this zephyr laden May.
How splashéd cliffs opposite
the valley floor are set.
Colored orange as I turn
and look with sunrise met.
Turning back, a half sun
is seen through reddened sky.
The slopes below, in shadow,
Betwixt Heaven and Earth they lie.
The cloudless sky above me,
Not a thing to block the view,
In pulling color over
says, "Already, I miss you."
Just one sliver remaining
In sun so dark maroon.
Turning to give another world
Its long life-ladened boon.
Retreated from our valley,
The sun has gone away.
Waiting for the sunrise,
I sit to see the day.
