What can you say about Dune without trivializing? If you haven't read it, please do! It waswritten by Frank Herbert It's one of the best books in any genre, not only science fiction.I suspect that this book has had a much larger cultural impact than many wouldrealizeespecially in the environmental field. It popularized the term, ecology and vividlyimparted a sense of planetary awareness, the experience of our world beyond politicalboundaries. It has everything: psychological depth and lesson in the Bene Gesserit teachings, high adventureand suspense, mind-expanding fantasy, lovable characters, insightful reflections that apply tocontemporary situations. I can't recommend it enough.Though not quite on the same level, the five sequels are all well worth reading. Dune only tied for theHugo award with This Immortal and none of the sequels or any of his other books won either a Hugoor Nebula. It makes me wonder about politics in Hugo and Nebula award voting circles.
