The Original Conformer : My first attempt at a webpage.

Å     Journalism

Words and Ideas : Web site managed by Ian Hutchings, to “promote journalism and free speech.” Includes a Message Board. [still under construction]

Å     Visual Arts

Mike Bielek, Illustrator : Some wicked graphic design, scientific and technical, from a dude that just keeps getting better (wink).

Armature : One of numerous projects or “projects”, if you will, from Chris Martin; you must experience – words can only dampen it...

Å     Research Resources

PsychINFO (nr) : American Psychological Association (APA) likes this one.

Wilson Omnifile (nr) : As the name may suggest, a database of abstracts pertaining to a variety of fields.

Memorial University List of Databases (nr) : A comprehensive list of research databases, for most fields of study. Not bad.

http://scholar.lib.vt.edu/ejournals/ALAN/ (nr) : Peer-reviewed reports, published online.

http://www.pitt.edu/~iise/journals.html (nr) : La meme chose.

Å     Recreational Substances

Dennis Leary, the guy you’d really like to ask…

High Times (7/10): From the same people who bring you the infamous magazine, here’s a website with great tips on all sorts of illicit pursuits. High Times has been around long enough to deserve its reputation as the authority on some of the more controversial of mother nature’s gifts. Includes an excellent Q-A grow page, maintained by people who know their weed.

Cannabis Culture (8/10): Canada’s own definitive publication on cannabis and whatnot. Some beautiful photographs, interviews, tips, etc., mostly from British Columbia, one of the world’s premiere growing (and consuming) regions, or so I hear.

Psychedelic Bookstore (nr): Quite an interesting site. Books on anything you want to know about psychedelics, along with other sorts of psychoactive substances. Includes material on growing, cultivating, synthesizing, using, abusing, and just plain shooting off to your friends about. Highly recommended.

Acid Dreams (nr): As the opening page reads: A Complete Social History of LSD: The CIA, the Sixties, and Beyond. Samples from the book by Martin A. Lee and Bruce Shlain. If interesting historical knowledge is your thing, and/or if reading about LSD, the CIA, the Sixties, or Beyond is your thing (of course it is!), then have a look at what these guys have to say about such matters.

DrugText (10/10) : The most comprehensive, egalitarian, objective, and useful drug-related webpage I have encountered in my cyber-travels. Go here for chemical information, scientific research, abuse prevention programs, legislation, philosophical arguments, and pretty much anything you need, if the subject is as interesting to you as it is to particular members of the Conformer. A must see.

Ecstasy.org (9/10) : In the spirit of DrugText, this site contains comprehensive information primarily concerned with methylenedioximetamphetamine (MDMA), otherwise known as Ecstasy, E, XTC, and other names I’ve read about but have never heard the chemical referred to as. Quite objective, including a clear presentation of the neuropsychopathology of E, and conflicting views regarding the interpretation of the evidence. If you’re at all interested in E, or you’re a regular or casual user and would like to learn more about what the thing is potentially doing to your brain, click.

Erowid Experience Vaults (8/10) : Provides a forum to browse the substance-related experiences of other folks just like you and me. You can also submit your own personal experiences, so that others can learn about them and they will not be lost forever in oblivion as your memory fades… if that kind of thing is important to you. Erowid is a shining example of the communicative power of the internet, in this writer’s humble opinion. Altogether a comprehensive site and a worthwhile visit.

Å     Wildness at its Wackiest

The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Version : Perhaps the late great Douglas Adams said it best:

The story grew in the most convoluted way, as many people will be surprised to learn. Writing episodically meant that when I finished one episode I had no idea what the next one would contain. When, in the twists and turns of the plot, some event suddenly seemed to illuminate things that had gone before, I was as surprised as anyone else.

So exactly how does a guy come up with this stuff?

As it is I went to lie in a field, along with my Hitch Hiker’s Guide to Europe, and when the stars came out it occurred to me that if only someone would write a Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy as well, then I for one would be off like a shot. Having had this thought I promptly fell asleep and forgot about it for six years.

If you don’t like this site, I for one have little hope for your unfortunate soul.

The Spark : Well, good quizzes for a start. Anything you wanted to know about yourself, done in a quite systematic fashion. The rest you shall have to venture to experience for yourself. The Conformer stresses its disclaimer absolving it from all responsibility regarding where in cyberspace it happens to direct naive passersby.

The Onion : Pseudonews. What may strike you most about this site is that these guys spend a lot of time doing this shit. Not that it doesn’t tickle the odd funnybone. Which I suppose is as good an occupation as any, and possibly better than many. Click.

Unknown Hypertext: Sometimes it’s better to write about what you don’t know. Who knows what might come out of it? Here’s an archive of peculiar results from  such experiments. Cause you just never know.
