The objective of this study is to verify the anxiety and
anguish lived by parents of children who are carrier
and/or with suspicion of Down's Syndrome. Generally, such
children are lead - by medical and/or instituitions - for
the Service of Genetic Counseling at the State University
of Londrina for a specific examination, to detect the
presence of the syndrome. The result of the examination
is presented to parents one month after the collection of
the material (blood). We understand that during this
period of suspicion until the result of examination is
very stressful for the parents to deal with the doubt of
the result. Therefore, such study will help us to
comprehend the dynamics of those who are involved with
such questions and to establish measurement of the
intervention. By doing this, parents may express their
anguish and anxiety by the possibility which result
from the examination given, and overcome the
interpersonal difficulty implicited in this process.
