They Were Not At All Ashamed

by Rick Christian

Jeremiah 6:15-"Were they ashamed they had committed abomination, nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush, therefore, they shall fall among them that fail...." This statement was made by the prophet of God Jeremiah concerning the children of God as a nation of old. Should we take heed and learn? Yes.

We are a nation of rights and privileges but there are limits; for, there are rules, and laws. What gets into the minds of people to think they can do and say and no one has a right to challenge what they do. The attitude: "I'm not going to be ashamed of what I do nor will I blush!" Our country has abandoned so many biblical principles and Christians are made to wonder what in the world they can do. It's time to say enough is enough and try to gain back some kind of respect. We, as members of the Lords church, ought not let people think that we are just blinded by the uncleanness, presumption and self-willed arrogance by dignitaries who will not live by the will of the Lord. Forget the politics friends, this article has absolutely nothing to do with politics or whether the president is guilty of the immorality publicized recently. This article deals with the morality and rationale of the most common defense offered-at least, the defense I have continued to hear most often; "So what! It does not matter."

As a believer in the book of God as the infallible standard from God, Christians believe that morality is vital and that righteousness exalts a nation. (Proverbs 14:34). That righteousness is established in the gospel. Romans 1:16,17-"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For, therein is the righteousness of God revealed..." Yet, we live surrounded by humanistic lifestyles that clamor for pure moral behavior to be ignored and forgotten. Yes, the real crisis in our country is not in the White House, it is in the population of Americans. Folks who just don't care about morals.

What we are seeing is a growing indifference to Sin. People who don't care about what the next person does, including our President, as long as they have financial prosperity. It's the self- gratification plea. Friend, it is not money in my pockets which exalts a nation but righteousness in the heart and lives of people who make up the nation. We too must beware of such attitudes which Paul wrote Timothy about in I Timothy 6:10-"For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

Isaiah wrote in chapter 5:20-"Woe unto them that call evil good and good evil, that put darkness for light and light for darkness, that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" An indication of indifference to sin is shown when those things which were once considered sinful or perverse are now accepted as normal or good by our society. We as Christians must oppose this. When I see folks wanting to redefine adultery to justify immoral activity, we are calling evil good! Remember friend, Jesus says, "But I say unto you that whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." (Matthew 5:28). Yet, today we hear some of our governmental dignitaries act like lewd, lascivious behavior as long as it falls short of the consummating act is not adultery. Friend, hear me kindly, if the lustful look according to the Lord renders one guilty equal to an act of adultery, then certainly lustful acts beyond looking would be at least as wrong wouldn't it!!

Solomon said in Proverbs 5:1,2-"My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge." When we hear justifications offered for immoral acts done today there is no regard for what God says about the danger of temptation and this is wrong friend! We are to "Flee fornication " as Paul wrote the Corinthian brethren.

Let's remember, according to Romans 13 and I Peter 2, our government has been authorized by God. They are to defend the good and punish the evil. Sadly, they don't always do that. Should I take personal vengeance. No, emphatically no! We must remember that it is God who rules in the affairs of men. "Daniel answered and said: "Blessed by the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. And he changes the times and the seasons, he removes kings and raised up kings....(Daniel 2:20-21). We need to pray for the leaders (I Timothy 2:1,2) Be the light of the world and salt of the earth. (Matthew 5:13-16) submit to the government unless we're forced to sin. (Romans 13:1-8) and God will take care of us.

May God bless us as we strive to exalt this nation in being the best Christian we can possibly be.
