They are all books I have personally read and can recommend
(bearing in mind I'm a classicist NOT an Egyptologist!

This book has been translated from Italian
which shows in some places. A good intro tho!

BUDGE Wallis E.A. Multiple References
To quote the Movie Dr. Jackson - "They still use Budge!"
Why are the Dover reprints still so essential and useful?
after nearly a century despite the many flaws?

Probably the most recent boook out on hieorglyphics
Excellent Intro but be warned they focus on Middle Kingdom Inscriptions

Davies W.V. Egyptian Hieroglyphics
A great intro for beginners
Part of the Reading the Past Handbook series
also available as a one volume set with the same title

Gardiner A. 1966 Egyptian Grammar 3rd ed. Oxford
A mega size reference book - huge heavy expensive
BUT worth going into a uni library to consult!

Jacq C. Fascinating Hieroglyphics
by the egyptologist who writes the Rameses novels
