(1874-1936)

G.K. ChestertonG(ilbert) K(eith) Chesterton was born in London and educated at Saint Paul's School and the Slade School of Art in London. Chesterton began his career as an artist and cartoonist, and later was known as an essayist, novelist, and poet. Over the course of time, the witty and controversial writer's philosophy changed from that of a liberal to a conservative. Many of Chesterton's works defend Roman Catholicism and religious orthodoxy, even before his conversion to Roman Catholicism in 1922.
