To be asked to write about a subject so vast is difficult. There are hundreds of tapes, articles and books that L. Ron Hubbard wrote on Scientology before his death. There are websites set up by the Church that do explain – in detail – the data, practices and beliefs of the Church. Any of these articles will give you – the reader – a more clear and concise view on Scientology than I can by my personal views. Many of the Scientology websites will give you practical examples of applying the data and philosophy of Scientology that you can try yourself.
One of the main criteria’s that Ron stated was that it has to work for you and be real for you. Scientology is not a religion built on faith or belief. It is a practical religion that WORKS. It can be applied to every aspect of human life. Ron specifically said to use only the data that actually worked for YOU!! There is so much data in Scientology that I could not do it justice in just one article so let me tell you instead of my personal journey.
My personal discovery of Scientology began when I was 8. I twisted my ankle in the wheels of my bicycle and was in agony. My parents had just bought the new book of the 1950’s – Dianetice – The Modern Science of Mental Health. In this book – Ron details how to use the spiritual abilities that we all possess to handle traumatic incidents. For them – this was a chance to put the book to work.
Within a few hours – my ankle was completely healed. I was annoyed as I wished to have a bandaged foot to show my friends and draw sympathy but my parents were delighted. They formed a Dianetics group and started using the techniques found in this book on friends. Before long, there was a lively Dianetics group busily helping each other. Dianetics comes from the Greek words dia (meaning through) and nous (meaning soul), which basically means, “what the soul is doing to the body through the mind”. Dianetics is a methodology, which can help alleviate such ailments as unwanted sensations and emotions, irrational fears and psychosomatic illnesses.
I read the book at 8 years of age and –myself- began using the techniques found in the book. From a weak, ailing child (I was always ill with some illness or the other) – I became a fit, fighting and determined teenager. I excelled in sports and was always at the top of my class, finally getting “A” levels at a Grammar School in England.
By now – I had researched other philosophies and religions and had come to the conclusion that Dianetics and now Scientology was for me. This was the career that I had been looking for.
Ron was still researching and found that there was a lot more to be found about the spirit. His further researched lead to Scientology – a natural extension of Dianetics. Scientology comes from the Latin scio (which means knows) and the Greek lord logos (which means “the word or outward form by which the inward thought is expressed and made known”). Thus Scientology means knowing about knowing. It is an applied religious philosophy, which is basically the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, universes and other life. He established a major training center at St. Hill England. To be able to train under him, I had to study in London and get my first certificates so – after finishing school, I went to study in London, graduated from the College there and finally was able to study under L.Ron Hubbard, himself, at St.Hill, East Grinstead, Sussex, England
I grew up in the exciting late fifties and early sixties of the last century, which was – in itself – a time of great spiritual upheaval. It was an exciting time and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have studied under a person that I consider to be one of the greatest spiritual beings on this Planet. Many people have asked me about Ron as I worked closely with him for some time on some of his research after my graduation at St. Hill. Al I can state is that he was the greatest person I have ever known. It is not often that one meets a genius that is so concerned about his fellow man. I have never met anyone who had as much love for his fellow man as he did.
So – What is Scientology?
In my opinion – it is NOT for the faint hearted. It is only for those who wish to discover TRUTH. It is NOT for those who wish to deal in mystery and half-truths and untruths and who wish to increase the deprivation of the spirit
It is for the bold adventurer. When every patch of the Earth has been discovered and charted – there will still be one area, which is to be explored. That area to be explored of untapped potential and hidden ability is YOU!!
Using the techniques of Scientology, you will discover WHO YOU REALLY ARE. You will find out where and when you have been over all the past trillenia. You will discover incredible realities that have long been obscured by those who would keep us enslaved on this planet on the outer rim of an insignificant galaxy.
You will find out WHY there has been such a long and arduous determination to keep you enslaved to one body. You will find out WHY you have been unable to recall your past lives and HOW assiduously others have worked to stop you remembering.
And you will find out HOW to dig yourself out of the trap that you are in. You may have dreams in which you recall your abilities. Those dreams are NOWHERE as great as your abilities actually are.
Life is a Game. But it has become a Trap. The data and techniques of Scientology will help you turn life back again into a game that you can ENJOY!! And will help you so that you will not become entrapped again.
What Scientology did for me was to give me back my eternity. I now know that I am a spiritual being. I have my memory back. I know who I am. I know where I am going. I have my traveling companions with whom I will walk forward into time.
Perhaps this has been too general and too personal a view for you. As I consider Dianetics and Scientology to be the greatest Philosophies ever presented on this planet – I DO have a biased view. I am now in my 60’s and consider that the best decision I ev
er made was to study at the Hubbard College of Scientology after my schooling. What I really would suggest, if you are interested in finding out about Dianetic and Scientology, is that you buy the first book (Dianetics – the Modern Science of Mental Health) or access the official Scientology website at http://www.whatisscientology.org/index.html or just walk into your nearest Church to find out what Scientology is all about.
Scientology is not for everyone.
