"Dawson's Creek" and The Houses of Worship

By Shelly Lyons

Unless you're an ardent foe of pop culture and neither read popular literature nor watch TV, you've heard about The WB's "Dawson's Creek," which premiered January 20th.
Thousands of would-be viewers are yet excluded from "Dawson" frenzy because The WB hasn't an affiliate in their area, but if you are not one of the 'left out,' you've probably cast a glance at the new teen drama about Dawson and his sexually awakening friends in an idyllic Atlantic Coast town.
Not even a younger, hornier Ray Bradbury could paint the always-autumnal sea-side sex-fest in teen Nirvana. But "Scream" author Kevin Williamson has fashioned something that millions of viewers flock to each week, making "Dawson's Creek" the no. 1 show on the three-year-old network.
We can thank or curse Williamson all we want, but the magnets that draw in the eyeballs take the form of gorgeous young people. Instant fame for Katie Holmes was predicted by the smacks-chopping critics. Lesser fame for the others. But fame, nonetheless, for all.
UltimateTV decided to cruise the Web to see which of the series' four leads -- James Van Der Beek (Dawson), Michelle Williams (Jennifer), Joshua Jackson (Pacey), Katie Holmes (Joey) -- had the most fan pages. We refer to them as Houses of Worship, and if you've ever cruised a fan page, you'll know why.
Joshua Jackson: 7 Websites
What is more tantalizing than a teenage 'Everyman' who can effectively woo and nail a drop-dead gorgeous teacher (played by LeAnn Hunley) with the same goofy wit and sardonic smirk with which he conducts all other teenage business? Sure, Jackson already had a fan base due to his "Mighty Duck" movies, but UltimateTV is of the opinion that straight-shooting Pacey is what's melting the hearts and spawning his Houses of Worship: All I Know About Joshua Jackson. We clicked and were transported to GeoCities. We were then informed that All I Know About Joshua Jackson "does not exist." So we got to thinking that they probably don't know too much.

"Joshua Jackson"
Seems to be written by a big "Mighty Ducks" fan, the movie that gave Josh a name and allowed him to work with Emilio Estevez. News bits, article links, a brief biography and plenty of pictures comprise the site. These people aren't fanatics, they're just really interested in Jackson's career and personal life.

Pacey's Place

You know someone means business when you get a pop-up ad on the front page. Beneath a picture of Josh in a Mighty Duck's uniform is a quote from the mouth of precocious fifteen-year-old Pacey: "I'm the best sex you'll never have." Pacey's Place is the only site cruised so far that includes a whole page of other super cool lines Josh has delivered on "Dawson's" and in his movies.

Created by "a Fanatical Joshua Jackson Fan," Stef is one of the 'Paceygirls' links from Pacey's Place. Once in, you realize that Stef is also fanatical about "Titanic," NASA/Space links, vegetarianism, and "the best week" of her life: The Congressional Youth Leadership Conference.
