can you recall my love?

The sun's fire fingers released sullenly to dark
swaddling moonbeams cupped the night
my echoed longing for you
grew as clear as crystal
can you recall my love?

we wrapped ourselves in moonbeam blankets
nodding and caressing like sleepy kittens
sharing forever promises, close like prayers
ice moon heart and faded sun soul our only witness

or have you chain-linked that fence?
snapped the lock shut with a guttural curse
your indifference a measured reply
of faded love that changes like spring leaves
crunching underfoot in the autumn forest
