Never Wake a Sleeping Giant
Before you begin attacking the west, it is helpful to read the cultural myths and legends that are taught to our children. Rule #1: Never wake a sleeping giant. It's in all the fairy tales. Jack and the Beanstalk is a prime example. Jack applies all his energy into sneaking past the giant in order to get the golden harp. He knows that if the Giant wakes, he's is really big trouble.
Those of you who don't believe in fairy tales, hang out and watch what happens next. WE will be there--wherever you are. We will be bringing the full resources of a wounded nation to locate and eliminate the criminals who murdered six thousand of our citizens and guests and destroyed our symbols. Not a problem. We won't quit. We will never, ever stop.
You think you've seen it before. Russia was in Afghanistan for ten years without success. Ah, but you have not seen us yet. Russia left behind land mines to destroy your children's limbs. We will leave behind roads and hospitals and medical supplies and schools. We will not only eradicate the terrorist extremists, but we will also improve your standard of living so that maybe--just maybe--you may live past your average life expectancy of 40.
We will leave behind telecommunications equipment so that you may get stay in contact with the other countries of the world. We will leave behind food, so that you may continue to feed yourselves and your children. And hating us will seem more difficult, because you have lived and bettered yourselves because we expended our resources to not only free ourselves from extremists who do terrible things to our citizens, but also to free you from poverty, starvation and early death.
Very few people in the USA blame the Afghan people. We realize that you are powerless to stop the Taliban and the terrorists. Those regimes have killed more of you than they have of us. We abhor the loss of freedom that you have suffered in the name of hatred and extremism. So the vendor in Kabul, trying to feed his chidren while his wife must stay behind closed doors and wear the hajib, has nothing to fear from us.
Those who should rightly fear us are those who are wielding the power over you and using your country as a hiding place for terrorist cells. We will find them. We will bring them to justice--American justice--which means that we will not kill them unless we are forced. We will try them in courts of law, imprison them, take away their money and power and leave them as they have left you--powerless and hungry. And you--the people of Afghanistan--will have a choice in how you live once again.
Do not fear America. Fear your leaders, for they have awakened a giant that will not be appeased with anything less than full justice.
Yes, Americans may be lazy, self-centered, wealthy and all the things that you have heard. And while we may bicker amongst ourselves, when our land and freedoms are threatened, we will stand, shoulder to shoulder--210 million strong--and finish the job we start. But we will not kill you, nor deprive you of your rights as a human being. You may worship any way you choose. You may dress any way you choose. You may say anything you choose.
Our mission is to find and punish the perpetrators of a crime on our soil. We will not punish those who are forced to live under a regime that is not of their choosing. Or, even if it is of your choosing, that is your right. If you have committed no crime--you will receive food, shelter, medicine, roads, hospitals and telecommunications equipment. If you have committed a crime, then you will receive our justice--fairer and more even handed than the justice you have been forced to accept. And when we are gone--and we will leave--you will be better off.
Fear not, people of Afghanistan. However, extremists and terrorists--don't bother going to sleep. We are awake now and united in a way that you cannot possibly understand. We are united by choice--not by dictate--and we will not break. Ever.
You have awakened us. Remember the saying "If you sow the wind, you will reap the whirlwind." We are coming. The whirlwind will take you. And when the dust settles, we will still be here.
