Forum One: REACH
Deep by Kaaria Yero Mucherera

Deep unto deep

All Mighty God calls,

A Congo drum, my heart pounds.

Rhythm, my walk.

Reverberation my talk.

Can't be taken away from me.

It's deep down inside.

Roots probe deep

searching creation;

Pishon, Gihon, Tigris and Euphrates.

Oh, in the rivers of God,

they quench their thirst.

Eternally leaves thrive,

‘cause roots run deep down inside.

Bent to the ground

palm in a hurricane,

the world harasses, oppresses me.

Timelessly I stand.

For as the tree is tall,

roots run deep,

deep down inside.

Born a tender plant out of dry ground,

bitterly yoked

in Babylon, I cried.

Bound in darkness,

dehumanized,

Winter harsh, so cold, a fateful demise.

In summer, oh in the light of God,

I revive from deep, deep sown inside.

This my story,

pilgrim journey,

legacy in ebony,

surely my future guide,

Can't be taken away from me;

For it's deep, deep down inside.
