April 18, 1906, at precisely 5:12 AM, a major earthquake with a magnitude that has been disputed hit San Francisco between 7.7 and 7.9. Atleast 700 lives were lost and over $400 million dollars in damage (1906). The quake rocked cities along the San Andreas Fault it only took between 45 to 60 seconds to do that much damage. The earthquake was felt from southern Oregon to south of Los Angeles and even central Nevada. After extensive research was done on the death toll it rose to approximately 3000, which was caused either directly or indirectly by the quake. The population at that time of San Francisco was 400,000, 225,000, people where left homeless. There were 28,000, buildings destroyed. Soon after the quake the fires began to break out which contributed to the damage and loss of life. The precise site of the earthquake was said to of had happened 300km from near San Juan Bautista to Point Arena.
