PALAPYE - SOME FACTS

Palapye is a small town situated on the main Gaborone-Francistown road in Central-Eastern Botswana.
It is at a junction where the road to Orapa leaves the main road.
Palapye is located on the banks of the Lotsane River, which only flows during the rainy season.
Despite the low annual rainfall (about 300mm), Palapye was hit by a flood in February 1995.
The only operating power station in Botswana, Morupule Power Station, is situated 5km west of Palapye. It is a coal-fired power station fed by the Morupule Colliery.
The nearby Tswapong hills to the south east and Dikalate hills to the north are full of ancient archaeological sites dating back thousands of years.
Palapye was originally called Phalatswe.
