PALAPYE
- SOME FACTS
- Palapye is a small town situated on the main Gaborone-Francistown
road in Central-Eastern Botswana.
- It is at a junction where the road to Orapa leaves the main road.
- Palapye is located on the banks of the Lotsane River, which only
flows during the rainy season.
- Despite the low annual rainfall (about 300mm), Palapye was hit by a
flood in February 1995.
- The only operating power station in Botswana, Morupule Power Station,
is situated 5km west of Palapye. It is a coal-fired power station fed by the Morupule
Colliery.
- The nearby Tswapong hills to the south east and Dikalate hills to the
north are full of ancient archaeological sites dating back thousands of years.
- Palapye was originally called Phalatswe.
