Henry Clemens age 43 mustered in Oct. 31, 1864 at Fondu Lac, Wis. was attached to Co. K. 1st Regement Calvary volunteers for one year.
Mustered out July 19, 1865 Edgefield, Tenn. It states in his records that on a march form Hartfield to Elizabethtown Kentucky near Hartfield in passing a long the banks of the river through the water he got his clothes wet and was obliged to remain in that conditon for several hours he caught a cold and was never the same. His eyesight slowly became dim and while in the regiment in Macon, Georgia his sight was so affected that he cold not recognize paper documents at a distant. His sight continued to fail all the time he was in service after exposure and he became totally blind 10 months after his discharge. Optic Neuritis was the cause of his blindness.
