Tool Consecration

Tools: Incense (in the East), White candle (in the South), small bowl of water (in the West), small bowl of salt (in the North)

Cast the Circle.

"Before these spirits I bring (name the tool) to be dedicated to the service of the Lady and the Lord.

Pass the tool three times through the smoke of the incense. Say:

"By power of Air, be purified. Be dedicated to purity, that all goals you help achieve may harm none and be for the good of all."

Pass the tool three times through the flame of the candle and say:

"By the power of Fire, be purified. Be dedicated to desire, that all goals you help achieve may harm none and be for the good of all."

Sprinkle a few drops of water on the instrument and say:

"Be the power of Water, be purified. Be dedicated to harmony, harming none and for the good of all."

Touch the instrument to the Earth (or salt) and say:

"By the power of the Earth, be purified. Be dedicated to steadfastness, that my will be achieved without wavering, with harm to none and for the good of all."

Present the tool to the Lord and Lady (if it is a Chalice, present it to the Lady first, if it is your Athame, to the Lord first).

Chalice: "Lady, Bless this Chalice, let it be a vessel of producitivity that may be worthy to reside in Circle with You. Lord, bless this Chalice that it may bring forth joy and purity. Guard the works which come forth from it, that they harm none and be ever in the service of Thee and Thy Lady. So Mote It Be."

Athame: "Great Lord, Bless this Athame, let it be pure for Thy service and bind it so that no harm may come of it to any being. Lord, Bless this Athame, that it be used always in the worship and honor of the One. Lady, Bless this Athame that it may bring forth joy and purity, and shall cause no harm to any being. I dedicate this Athame to Thy service. So Mote It Be."

Release the Circle.

Another Option:

Hold your knife (or other tool) up high and say:

"God and Goddess; Lord and Lady; Father and Mother of all life. Here do I present my personal Tool for your approval. From the materials of nature has it been fashioned, wrought into the form you now see. I would that it henceforth may serve me as a tool and weapon, in they service."

Place the tool on the Altar and stand (or kneel) for a few moments with head bowed and think of the construction of the tool and what you did to personalize it.

Dip your fingers in the salted water (prepared at the beginning of the ceremony) and sprinkle the tool. Turn it over and sprinkle the other side. Pick the tool up and hold it in the smoke of the incense and turn it so that all parts of the tool get thoroughly censed. Say:

"May the Sacred Water and Smoke of the Holy Incense drive out any impurities in this (say the tool), that it be pure and cleansed, ready to serve me and my Gods in any way I desire. So Mote It Be.!"

Hold the tool in the palms of your hand and concentrate all your energies (your "power") into the tool and say:

"I charge this (tool name), through me, with the wisdom and might of the God and Goddess. May it serve me well, keeping me from harm and acting in Their service, in all things. So Mote It Be!"

If you are consecrating more than one tool (or other things), repeat the previous part of the Ritual with each item in turn. Close the Circle as follows:

Raise your newly-consecrated tool in the hand you write with and say:

"My thanks to the God and the Goddess for Their attendance. May they ever-watch over me, guarding and guiding me in all that I do. Love is the Law and Love is the Bond. So Be It!"

Keep the consecrated item on your person for the next 24 hours following consecration. Sleep with it under your pillow for three consecutive nights. You may allow others to look at or even handle your tool but never loan it to anyone for use in or out of the Circle.
