The Emerald Tablet

The Emerald Tablet. This version interpreted and translated by Scott Crane by the Light of Thoth. It is this little tablet that inspired the whole Hermetic Tradition and provided the process for the accomplishment of Magick and Alchemy. It is attributed to the legendary Hermes Trismegistus (Hermes thrice greatest).

1. True, without falsehood, certain and most true,
2. that which is above is like that which is below, and that which is below is like that which is above, for the performance of the miracles of one the one substance.
3. And as all things are produced from One, by the meditation of One, so all things were produced from this one substance by adaptation.
4. Its father is the Sun, its mother the Moon; the wind carries it in its belly, its nurse is the Earth.
5. It is the Father of all perfection throughout the world.
6. Its power is integrating, if it be changed into earth.
7. Separate the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross, acting prudently and with great ingenuity and skill.
8. Your skilful work ascends from the earth to heaven, and then again descend to the earth, and receives the powers of things superior and things inferior. So thou hast the glory of the whole world, therefore let all obscurity fly before thee.
9. This is the strong force of all forces, it conquers every subtle thing and can penetrate every solid.
10. Thus was the world formed.
11. Hence proceed wonders, which are here established.
12. Therefore, I am called Hermes Trismegistus, having three parts of the philosophy of the whole world.
13. That which I had to say concerning the operation of the sun is completed.
