Ix Chel Great Mother Goddess of Mesoamerica. Like other Great Goddesses around the globe, She has many forms, names, attributes and images. She is Mother Earth, She Is the cave womb. From Her life is born and returns at death. She is the keeper of the bones and the souls of the dead. Her feast day is La Dia de los Muertos.
Ix Chel is fertility so that life continues: animal, vegetal, human.She is the mystery and joy of female sexuality, and protectress of women and children.
Ix Chel is a healer who knows the healing gifts of Nature and Her plants. Her flowers are the maguey and the marigold. She teaches and heals by exampIe, comforting the afflicted when they are in pain.
Ix Chel is the energy of water the essential ingredient for life. As the tree of life, milk pours from Her breasts and blood from Her womb. Nourishing rains, crystal clear cenotes, flowing rivers are Her gifts.
The Moon is Ix Chel‘s symbol. Going through cycles of waxing, full,waning and darkness which mirrors women‘s blood mystery body cycles of human life.
The Mayan stepped pyramid is Ix Chel‘s mountain.
Ix Chel is feathered serpent energy of transformation. Her totem animal spirit is the snake which sheds its skin and is continually reborn. Often, She wears the snake on Her head or stands on it. Felines are also Goddess animal guides. Ix CheI´s lap is the red jaguar throne of authority and power. A rabbit symbolizing abundance and fertility is Ix Chel´s Mayan glyph.
Ix Chel is the young Maiden ripe with flowering life. Ix Chel is the old crone of wisdom pouring the waters of life from Her vessel cauldron. Her partner is Itzamna as the wise oldman. Her younger partners are Her sons, the feathered serpents Quetzalcoatl and Kukulcan.
Ix Chel is creative inspiration for artists and craftspeople. She weaves the web of Iife and is the matron of weavers and those who make clothing.
