Grading Policy

Your grade will be based on your scores on homework, tests, quizzes, journals, problems of the week and citizenship. Tests and quizzes make up 50% of your grade, homework, journals, projects, and problems of the week make up 40% of your grade, and citizenship is the remaining 10% of your grade.

Homework
This will be daily homework. Practice is essential to being successful in mathematics, so we practice everyday!! Your grade for homework is based on completion. I think homework is a time for you to practice, so if you attempt every problem in your assignment, you will receive full credit (2 points). If you attempt ½ up to all but one problem, you will receive half credit (1 point). Any less than ½ of the assignment is no credit (0 points).

Quizzes
These will be occasional, and not always with advanced notice. We will have 1 or 2 quizzes per section prior to unit tests to help you determine what to study for and what you already know pretty well. They will range from 5 to 20 points each.

Tests
We will have tests over each unit or chapter. They will range from 30 to 100 points each depending on the size of the chapter.

Journals
The journal writes will be once or twice a week, maybe even three times. Some will be math related, others will concentrate on how you like or dislike things that are happening in the class. You are required to get your own journal, a spiral notebook 80 to 120 sheets, they are about 50 cents at Top Foods.

Problems of the Week
These will be assigned every two weeks and will be worth 5 points each. They are challenging problems to help expand your mind. They are also graded based on completion and effort rather than strictly on accuracy.

Citizenship
You will begin each semester with 100 citizenship points that make up 10% of your final grade. If you are on time everyday with a great attitude you will maintain all these points. Also you may have no unexcused absences to keep them all.

Late Work
There will be no late work accepted at all!!!!

Make-up Work
You may make up any missed work from an excused or school related absence. You have as many days to make it up as you missed. If your absence is not excused you may not make up the work assigned that day or turn in the work that was due on the day you missed.
