Like a Snowflake

Any child who has encountered the marvel of a winter snowfall has done so by tasting a snowflake. With tongue stuck out as far as it will reach, I have watched my own children catch a falling snowflake, only to have it melt instantly without really any taste at all.

Rarely do we stop to exam a snowflake’s individuality. We all know that each one is different, but do we ever pause to think why?

Each little flake that falls has it’s own shape, it’s own form, personality and is it own design. As they pile up, they become lost in the drift. Layer upon layer forms until they become one in beautiful bright splendor of winter. The purity of the snowflakes together reflect the sun in a beauty that blinds the human eye. When the spring air finally arrives, the snow gives way to the emerging growth and renewal of what was lost to the winter frost.

In the big picture of life, it’s easy to feel that we are insignificant, just another one in a zillion in the sight of God. The great plan of salvation that our Heavenly Father designed for us is not generic, but specific. Between all of life’s stages, from birth through life and eventually death, we find ourselves saying, "Does God have a plan for me?"

Well, He does. And just as He has a design for each individual snowflake that falls, He has a similar plan for each of His children.

We are here to be one, even though we have been designed as individuals. We need to be close to others in order to feel the warmth of the Son’s love. We have been told that in order to grow closer to our Savoir, we need to be one with him.

We are like snowflakes. Yet we also can survive the spring thaw and let new things bloom within our souls.
