Hi All,
Just want you to know that Jerry is doing well. Getting stronger every day.
Steve arrived Thur evening and Dave Fri afternoon. Fri morning Steve and I took Jerry to buy new shoes. His feet, especially the right one, on the leg with the blood clot, are so swollen that his old shoes were uncomfortable. He found a pair available in many widths, with more depth to them than the usual shoe. Also, the lacing is designed to be able to tighten the fit considerably, so that the shoe on his less swollen left foot isn't too loose.
In the afternoon the young priest from St. Philomena's came and prayed with us and anointed Jerry. We pray that this sacrament of anointing for the sick will strengthen his body and his spirit. Do any of you have a crucifix that slides apart with the back making a base to hold the crucifix and candles that are stored in a hollow area in the base? I had mine set up on the table when father came. He said they told them about sick call kits in the seminary, but he had never seen one before. Made me feel really old!! He had his own votive candle with him, I guess most people don't even have a candle to light.
Jerry said he felt well enough to drive to Chillicothe for the American Legion's Friday evening dinner (fried walleye, french fries, and Cole slaw). Dave said he could eat a meal like that about once a year! After dinner we walked down to the next block and looked at a walk-through area the city has recently made to shorten the distance from the parking lot behind the stores. The area is nicely landscaped, including benches and a small picnic table. We showed the kids the bricks with our names and Joe and Jennie's names carved into them. The city let people purchase named bricks to be put in the pathway as a fund raiser.
We had asked Louise to go to dinner with us, but she was busy working in her yard and changing the oil in her car. She invited us to stop and visit her on our way home. We thought Jerry would be too tired, but he said, "Well I can rest at Louise's." So we stopped. Had a nice visit and enjoyed seeing her use of wild flowers in her landscaping. It was a nice day. We thank God for the day, and that Jerry had the strength to enjoy it.
Love, Mom/Colleen
