Slam Dunk is a Japanese comic written by Takehiko Inuoe
The series starts with a Hanamichi Sakuragi, the main character of our story, being dumped by 50 girls. He never likes basketball but one day Takenori Haruko saw him and asked if he liked basketball. As Haruko is such a cute girl, Sakuragi was literally "burning in flames".
"Yes, I love basketball because I'm a great athlete!" So Sakuragi joined the Shohoku High School basketball team that Takenori suggested.
The story continues talking on about how he learns basketball and the games he play... It's very fun watching the process... how he keeps calling himself genius... ^.^
