  • ROBERT SWINBURN, born (reg.Q3 South Shields) 1883; died 31 May 1900 (reg. Chester-le-Street) aged 16, he had been sent to gather the cows on a wet day, got wet and against family advice lay in front of the fire to dry, he developed pneumonia from which he died. For Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee he was presented with a book by the trustees of the Peareth Estates, it was called 'A Tramp Abroad'* by Mark Twain

  • FREDERICK SWINBURN, born (reg.Q3 Lanchester) 1887; Freddie was presented with 'The Boys Own Annual for 1896'* for the Diamond Jubilee. He died 1 February 1897 aged 10 years and 8 months. He had been playing in the cart shed (the former Tithe Barn of the Parish of Holy Trinity, Usworth) when he fell between floors and hit his head, the resulting meningitis caused his death. He was a choirboy of some repute and the parish records for All Saints Church show that there was a special service for him.
