Perhaps some of you would love to have some sort of early-warning system for your retreat; something like radar, that would give you maybe ten or twenty minutes warning of the aproach of one or more helocopters. Well, maybe you just might be able to do just that, and at a relatively low cost. Marine radar systems are available through mail order catalogs, and over the internet. Two examples are given below, that are distributed by West Marine. I am not their representative or a dealer, but at these prices, you might want to check it out. The first is the least expensive they sell, and has a range of 16 nautical miles. The second, which is at or near the top of the line, has a range of 32 nautical miles. The third one is good to 48 nautical miles (Si-Tex T-280, WM Model 253767). They all have rather small, easy to camo, antennas. They typically come with alarm setups in the display console that tell you when a target comes into range. Of course, I can make no claims as to the legality of using marine radar on land (especially if it should interfere with aircraft navigation). This should be something you should check out, yourself, and judge according to your particular situation. Page 53 of their catalog has a nice article on selecting a radar. There is more to it than range, price and power.
