7A. Mono-duo-poly-pan-theism or The God/dess calls

The Quarter calls established our outer boundaries, the Deity calls bring us back to the center.

Witchcraft is a Pantheiastic religion because we believe that there is a divine spark in all things, Imminent deity. We are all "God/dess".

Witchcraft is a Polytheistic Religion because we believe that it is useful to call "God/desses" by their Names. Just as every plant, animal and rock is a face of the divine so is every God/dess.

Witchcraft is Duo theistic because we polarize the world into masculine and feminine, but not into good and bad. This is a very important theological point.

Witchcraft is Monotheistic because we believe that everything arises out of one divine spirit. All that is God/dess there is nothing else.

God/dess Call

Invocation to the Ground of Being from Starhawk

Nameless One...... .....of many names

Eternal..... .....and ever-changing one

Who is found nowhere..... .....but appears everywhere

Beyond..... .....and within all

Timeless..... .....circle of the seasons,

Unknowable mystery..... .....known by all

Lord of the Dance..... .....Mother of all life

Be radiant within us..... .....Engulf us with your love

See with our eyes, Hear with our ears,

breath with our nostrils, touch with our hands,

Kiss with our lips, open our hearts!

That we may live free at last

Joyful in the single song

of all that is, was, or ever shall be!

7b. Deity calls -- God

When we wish to call the divine in its dual form we call the God first, using a descriptive evocation or invocation. We may either call the God or Gods we wish to attend our rite or we may "Draw Down the Sun" Calling the deity to manifest within us. A request for Divine possession should never be taken lightly.

Due to the flexible nature of Wiccan theology the God may be called simply as "The Lord", the manifestation of all masculine energies, or by any one or more specific God name(s). If the group can not decide He may be called as masculine aspects without a name or everyone can call out the name and attributes that they desire.

Once the Deity is called we request their assistance in the ritual. When we have finished our request we welcome them and signal their arrival and the completion of the call by lighting a candle and ringing a bell.

7C. Deity calls -- Goddess

We call the Goddess next using a descriptive evocation or invocation. We may either call the Goddess or Goddesses we wish to attend our rite or we may "Draw Down the Moon" Calling the deity to manifest within us. A request for Divine possession should never be taken lightly.

Due to the flexible nature of Wiccan theology the Goddess may be called simply as "The Lady" the manifestation of all feminine energies, or by any one or more specific Goddess name(s). If the group can not decide She may be called as feminine aspects without a name or everyone can call out the name and attributes that they desire.

Once the Deity is called we request their assistance in the ritual. When we have finished our request we welcome them and signal their arrival and the completion of the call by lighting a candle and ringing a bell.
