TV stations, a threat of sorts!
All throughout last week, you regaled readers with a with a series of flame-throwing scoops against the cable network operator culminating on Saturday 28/8/98 photo-reportage of the summit of TV bosses. In your editorial comments of the day you chose to question your participation in the matter on grounds of principle and spell out the economic arguments why TV stations would go under, if Melita has its way!
And what’s the big deal if the two elephant political stations and radios went under! Does Malta need all this political infrastructure?
Acting in deference to their ominous responsibility towards the nation, these propaganda machines are instrumental to the polarisation and severe alienation of the population.
Just as this one small threat to their income saw them scrambling for a buddy-buddy summit at PBS, I think that NET, SUPER 1 (in strict alphabetic order) and the other TV stations should now follow suit and put their names to a code of ethics in defence of the viewing public and in recognition of their most ominous responsibilities toward this nation.
