CHAPTER FIVE

TIME : Monday, October 6th, 1997

The weekend was over, don't weekends always seem to just fly by and before you know you're back in school? I was so tired, it was my first class, english literature. I yawned, and Brian asked me, "Why are you so tired?"
"I dunno," I said, "I mean, this class is sooo interesting, what could possibly be wrong with me?"
Brian smiled, "Well, ok, I see your point"
I smiled proud. Then something came to my mind, and I said, "Tell me again Brian, how the hell did you ended up...you know, doing that with that girl."
"And I say again, I don't remember a fuckin' thing!" Brian said.
"How could you not remember?" I asked.
"Hell, I was drunk..."
"but how could you not remember something like that??"
"You should get drunk, maybe that'll answer your question"
"Yeah, maybe I'll get some sex." I laughed.
"Maybe..." Then Brian bursted out laughing, as if he had just thought of something.
"What???" I asked. Then the teacher scolded us, and we stopped talking....for a bit.

"I'm gonna ask Lily.." I said, looking at my book.
"What?" Brian asked, as if he hadn't heard right.
"I'm gonna ask Lily" I said, without looking at him.
"Ask her.......what?" Brian said curiously
"You know, that" I said.
"WOW, I never thought you'd wanted sex so bad!" and he laughed.
"Fuck you man!" I said, and laughed too, "You know what I mean!"
"Yeah, sorry," then he turned serious, "then go for it."
"It's...it's just not that easy." I said, and looked at him.
"Yes it is, you go up to her and ask her." he said.
"SInce when do you know how to ask someone??" I said.
"Hey, I've seen movies, I know, believe me I know." he smiled.
I laughed, "But movies are movies, in movies everything is planned out and acted."
"and? the idea of how something is done in a movie, comes from the writter, and he probably has gone through something similar or at least has experience cause where else is he gonna get the idea from?"
"Ok ok, I believe you, just shut up" I said.
Brian laughed, "you're unbelievable."
Then the teacher scolded us again, and we didn't talk till the class was over.

That afternoon, when we were going out of school, I told Lily I wanted to speak with her...alone. We went to the front yard of the school, everyone was coming out of the school. "So..." I said, I was beginning to get nervous. There was silence for a bit.
Then she said, "So...........what did you wanna ask me?" and she smiled.
"Well..." I said, and again I stayed quiet. I kept getting more and more nervous. I saw everyone walking around us, and all the grass covered with spots of brown leaves, as well as some falling from the trees.
"Jacob..." she started.
"Would you be my girlfriend??" There! I let it all out, I closed my eyes, I felt my heart beating so hard against my chest.
"Yes!" she exclaimed, and she laughed and hugged me.
"wow" I thought. "You knew I was gonna ask this didn't you?" I said.
"Well...." she said, but she didn't finish the sentence.
"I just think you're so amazing and beautiful..." I told her.
"I think you are amazing too jacob, and handsome" she replied. I smiled, and I kissed her, that kiss was the one that bonded us together from then on.
We smiled, I held her hand and we went back to the others, Kat, Sheila, and Brian.

Brian smiled, I knew he knew I would go through with it.
"guess what?" said Lily.
"What? NO? Oh my gosh, that's soooo cute!!" exclaimed Sheila.
"You're boyfriend and girlfriend??" asked Kat surprised.
"Yes" I said, and blushed.
"That's great! you two are great together!" said Kat.
Lily smiled. Then I heard my brother calling me, "shit" I said.
"I gotta go, bye!".
I kissed Lily and let go of her hand, "Call me!" she said.
"Oh, believe me, I will!!" I yelled, and got on the car.

As soon as I got home I did all my homework, and dialed Lily's phone number.
"Hellow" I said.
"Hey Jacob." she said.
"How are you?" I asked.
"Good, you?" she replied.
"Good, but now I'm great cause I'm hearing your voice."
Lily laughed, "I can't believe you actually asked me! I'm so happy for you!!"
"Well, it didn't cost me anything, but it was worth a lot." I said, and I smiled.
"So, what are you up to?"
"Thinking about you, of course"
"No, really?"
"Really"
"To tell you the truth, I've been thinking about you too."
I smiled, "You are so wonderful, I'm so glad I met you."
"Me too Jacob, it seems we were just made for each other!"
"I know what you mean, it's so amazing!"
Then Lily started singing, "Kiss me, beneath the milky twilight...lead me out on the moonlit floor," then she stopped and said, "Go on."
I cleared my throat, "lift your open hand strike up the band and make the fireflies dance silver moon's sparkling so kiss me..".
She laughed, "kiss me down by the broken treehouse swing me up on its hanging tire..."
"bring bring bring your flowered hat we'll take the trail marked down your father's map.." I sang. We both laughed. "You are so amazing Jacob." Lily said.
"Thankyou," I let out a chuckle, "You are too believe me."
"Thanks..." she said. "SO what are you doing friday night?" I said, and gulped.
"I dunno." she answered.
"Wanna go to the movies or--" I started, but she interrupted me,
"sure!"
"Great!" I exclaimed.
"I mean, I have to see if I can.."
"Yeah, I know me too."
"But I think I can."
I smiled, "Wow, I can't believe this!"
"I know!!"
"It's so unbelievable."
"It's like magic."
"Yeah, it's all so perfect..."
"I hope it lasts..." she said.
"Oh it will, we are just so perfect for each other."
"Yes, so it seems."
"I've never felt like this about anyone.......it's you, you are just so perfect."
"No I am not," she said, I felt she had just blushed there, "you make me feel perfect.."
I smiled, "But you are really."
"Thankyou Jacob, you are a very wonderful person.."
"well, you make me be this way, you make me happy."
"I know what you mean, you make me happy too."
"Do you think it is? Do you you think it might be?"
"Love? I don't know, I can't really explain what I am feeling"
"Yes me neither, but I know I want to be with you."
"Me too, Jacob, me too, I'm so glad you asked me."
"I'm glad I dared ask you."
"Imagine if you wouldn't have.."
"Yeah, so much time I would've wasted."
"Yes."
"Without expressing myself to you."
"That's what's so special, we both want each other."
"Yes, a perfect match."
"Oh Jacob, I'm confused really..."
"I know, these feelings are confusing."
"No, it's not that."
"Then what?"
"I feel....well, it's complicated."
"Try me."
"No, it's ok"
"Really?"
"Yes"
"Ok, I won't ask you about it then" I smiled.
"Thanks, you are so understanding."
"I'm supposed to be."
Lily laughed, "Yes, you are.."
I laughed too, "Oh Lily...."
"..what I'd do without you?" she continued.
"Yes" and I laughed.
She laughed and said, "Yes, what would you do?"
I laughed again, "I have no idea."
"Me neither"
"Thanks"
"for?"
"Making me feel this special." I said.
"You're so very welcome."
I smiled, "I still can't believe this"
Lily laughed, "Yeah, me neither, but let's enjoy it while it last."
"Yes, I know."
"this doesn't happen everyday."
"I still can't believe this."
Lily laughed harder, and I laughed too.
"Jacob, you're so sweet."
"Thank you, you are too."
"Well, I have to do my homework now.."
"Ok, buh bye."
"bye" she laughed.
"Bye"
"Bye"
"Bye"
"Bye, Jacob for real now, bye, I'm gonna hang up."
"Ok, bye."
There was silence for a while.
"Hang up!" she exclaims.
"Ok ok" I said, and I hung up the phone, then I picked it up,
"hello?" but she had hung up.

I threw myself on the bed. Oh Lily, if you had any idea how much I want you, ever since I saw I've had a crush on you, and now it's all so perfect, everything seems so right, like it couldn't get better. But then, if it couldn't get better, then it could get worse, is that what you fear? I fear it too, but as long as it's good, let's not think about it being bad..I wish this would last forever, but I know it won't, things like these are just too good to be true and they never last..............but I'll make the best of it as long as it lasts......Then the phone rang, I quickly picked it up, "hello!" I said. It was Brian, "Hey man" he said.
"Hey..."
"So how did it go?" he asked me.
"Well, you know, she said yes, she is so wonderful." I answered.
"You really like her don't you?"
"NO, gee, what makes you say that?? Of course I do."
"You are very lucky man, I wish I had a girlfriend."
"Well you will, all in due time."
"Yeah right!" he exclaimed.
"Don't be so negative, man, you never know."
"It's just...that there's not really a girl that likes me."
"Well...I'm sure you'll meet her someday"
"You think"
"Sure! Why not?"
"I dunno..." he said.
"Is there something wrong Brian? I can feel it.."
"No"
"Really?"
"Well, yes there is, but not that you'd be interested."
"Oh c'mon, tell me."
"No, really no."
"I'm your best friend, you can trust me."
"Really?"
"Of course!"
"Well, look....I'm gonna go ok, bye." and he hung up, just like that.

Brian can be so confusing sometimes, but I didn't think much about it, I kept thinking about Lily, of course. But then again, Brian was my best friend, what was the matter with him?? Oh, sometimes it's so frustrating to not know what's going on and not being able to help someone you know........but if Brian wants some help, he'd tell me right? Well, like I said, all in due time.....
