Wrestling

Womens' wrestling is becoming a huge sport. The object of wrestling is to get take your opponent down and get control of him/her.

This is Sara Mcmann wrestling in the
women's olympic finals match.
She lost to Kaori Icho by one
point.

Sara has gone through a lot to persue her dream. She has gotten injured, has been defeated, and has lost a few loved ones. She is not your typical woman, she is rough, tough, and does not back down. ESPN comments that she "Wrestles like life comes at you: relentlessly. She stands her ground, takes her lumps, but not long ago she made the decision to fight back." The lost match that she looks back on most often is the one against Japan's Kaori Icho in the Olympic finals in 2004. She only lost by one point, but was a very upsetting point. That point was the difference between being an olympic champion or a runner up. She should have been happy with making it that far, but she wasn't, she felt that she let her brother down.

Sara Mcmann
Her brother Jason Mcmann was her role model and he is the one who got her started wrestling. That is one reason it was so hard to say goodbye to him in January 1999. In this year Jason went missing, but they ended up finding his body three months later. His decomposed body was found almost thirty miles out of town in the woods. Luckily Sara's family took the evidence they had to America's Most Wanted and someone was able to tell them who killed Jason.

Her husband-to-be Steven Blackford.

Not to long after the loss of her brother, she lost another loved one, her fiance Steven Blackford. He died in 2004 in a car accident. Sara and Steven were driving to Steven's parents house for a Labor Day barbecue when Sara closed her eyes for one moment and the car was off the road. Sara tried to correct it, but was too fast, the car rolled and went over and off the right side of the road.Unfortunatly this crash ended in a fatality, but Sara has learned a lot and grown from her experiences.
