SKW
They go on Much Music and explain
how "Some Kinda Wonderful" was inspired by a psychedelic dream where Iron Maiden's Eddie is a real hot chick who's really Satan and entices an old man
to be her beau 'cause she's such a looker.
SKW, Powder, Shave and Love Song....
Below the exterior of Sky's sweet sexy soul and stylish, earthly good looks, lies a gritty reality. James and Antoine are drawn to subjects that are off the beaten track, a guy in love with a she-devil in "Some Kinda Wonderful," cocaine addiction in "Powder," a heroine-driven crime in "Shave." Purer in thought are the personal snapshots in the propulsive "Love Song" and stunning ballad "All I Want," a destined international hit.
Love Song:
"When you write a song, the idea and the feelings you have in your head are easier to express lyrically," says James. "That song is my life in a nutshell with all the disturbances and happy moments, and The Euro-Syndicate was able to help build a track behind it that makes you feel the same way."
Strange
-For a treat, at 8:50 the stations spins an unreleased, straight off the board CDR demo of a new song, the sultry "Strange," which Arista might add to the album before its U.S. release. "It's about really weird kinky sex," says Antoine when he's off the air. "It's a kind of in-your-face, funky, R&B bumpin', whipping, '80's -flavoured, Jacksons-influenced track."
Strange
" Sky’s likely second U.S. single, is a gritty, pulsating track filled with sexual tension that explores a forbidden relationship and takes place in the steamy, sensual environment of Europe’s dance clubs.
America, Dreamin', All I Want
Other key cuts include "America", a wistful pop song laced with a touch of cynicism, about how the pursuit of the American Dream is "nothing more than a dead-end"; "Dreamin’," a heartfelt breakup song with a soaring melodic chorus; and "All I Want," a stunning ballad with spectacular harmonies.
Some Kinda Wonderful
If Sky does write an old-fashioned love song, there's most likely a twist. The shuffling pop of "Some Kinda Wonderful", for instance, is about a man smitten by a rather unusual woman. "You can call me baby if you let me hold your soul," goes the lyric, written from her perspective. And later, from his: "I know the eyes are freaky and the horns are here to stay." "It's about this guy who falls in love with Satan in the form of a woman," explains James. "They move to the suburbs and have kids, and everybody gawks. He thinks it's because she's really pretty."
Powder
Antoine says: There’s the song Powder, and if you listen to the lyrics, it sounds like a guy talking about a girl he loves and how it doesn’t work out. But if you look deeper, you know that the song is about cocaine and it’s love and hate and how it started.
Shave
Antoine says: And Shave is about this guy whose whole family turns him out because of heroin.
James says: It’s actually based on an unfinished book by a friend of mine about a father who hires his son to kill his other son – a kid addicted to heroin – and the whole thing is witnessed by the daughter. It gets really kinda screwy, really experimental.
